Walter was elected as the first Chairman of Great Baddow Parish Council in 1894. The Great Baddow Library building was renovated in 1994 and in 1995 was opened as extra Community Rooms, (the library having moved to new premises), the main hall being named  "The de Zoete Room".		 Notes:  Edith's father was a Brewery Manager and the 1851 census shows Edith aged 5 months at Atkins Road, Clapham.
1861 and 1871 the family were at 18 Blessington Road, Lee, and in 1871 Edith's future husband Walter was staying with them.
