Dr. James Ray and his family were at this address
in 1871 and 1881. After his retirement to Beccles Rd. Oulton, his daughter Eva and her husband Dr. Allan Heslop Jackson were here in 1891.

The dispute is thought to have been over Dr. Ray in his horse and carriage, splashing mud accidentally over George Borrow.
