Mary Ann Pleasance WESTRUP (1785-1877) I had previously shown Mary Ann as Mary Ann PLEASENTS, as had several other people researching the family. I had never been able to find a birth or Baptism of a Mary Ann Pleasents (or sound alike spellings) c1785 at Boxted or anywhere else in Suffolk. My suspicions were roused when I found Mary Ann Eagle on the 1861 census visiting Henry Braddock and his wife Catherine at Hawes Farm, Somerton, Suffolk. Mary Ann with a Lydia Skyrme and Martha Pool were all described as sister-in-law to Henry. I then found the wedding of Henry Braddock and Catherine WESTRUP. I went to the Society of Genealogists in London this week and searched the Boxted parish registers on micro fiche, there was NO Mary Ann Pleasents (or various spellings) born Boxted 1785 + or - 5 years. But I did find Mary Ann, Catherine, Lydia and Martha all children of John and Mary (Pleasance) Westrup. The Belchamp St. Paul marriage register shows clearly that William Eagle married Mary PleasANTS Westrup 15 December 1808. The other family researchers were presumably misled by the Boyd's Marriage register showing William Eagle and Mary PleasANTS at Belchamp St. Paul in 1808, as was I. PleasANCE, PleasENTS or PleasANTS - take your choice!!! Ron Goose 15 October 2010 |
