A descendant of the Inghams of the Castle of Ingham, through the
Norfolk branch, accompanied King William III to Ireland in 1690. He
and his brother William held commissions in the Dutch Guards, the former
that of Captain and the latter that of Lieutenant. Lieut. William
was killed by one of King James's party on the eve of the battle of the Boyne.
Captain Joseph Ingham was present at the battles of the Boyne, Aughrim,
and the siege of Limerick After the Treaty of Limerick, he retired from
the Army, married Miss Kinsellagh,
and took up his residence at Lisnamaine, otherwise Johnville or Sycamore
Fields, in the Barony of Lower Loughtee, co. Cavan. Nearby, he also owned
the lands of Drummany, and other lands in the counties of Cavan and
Fermanagh, some of which he obtained on marriage. |
